St. Josefsheim Schruns
The design plans are finalised: Silvretta Montafon is planning to renovate the historic St. Josef's Home in Schruns.
Schruns (A) After several months of planning, the former maternity and hospital centre is being transformed into a new kind of meeting zone consisting of a hostel and restaurant that combines history and tradition. Completion is planned for summer 2021.
It's about the renovation of the St. Josefsheim in the heart of Schruns. "The renovation of the St. Josefsheim is a matter close to our hearts. For several months, we have been working intensively on the history and structural conditions of the building, because we want to make something out of it that suits the house," emphasises Peter Marko, Managing Director of Silvretta Montafon. The Silvretta Montafon project team is working with Salzburg restaurateur and consultant Stefan Brandtner to develop a new concept: the listed building will become a meeting zone for Montafon locals and guests, consisting of a restaurant and hostel. "We have managed to capture the spirit of the building and turn it into a contemporary and innovative project. Experience, movement, but also deceleration and innovation through reduction were our basic ideas," says project manager David Brenner, giving an insight into the approach. Accordingly, Silvretta Montafon is planning a gastronomic experience on the ground floor with bread, wine and coffee as the main culinary protagonists. It will focus on locality and regionality, concentrating on the essentials. A hostel is to be built on two further floors, with which Silvretta Montafon will appeal to active and adventurous young people as well as young adults and make a stay in the sports region affordable for these target groups.
A special house with tradition
"The particular challenges of the renovation lie on the one hand in the consideration of the listed building and the associated guidelines. On the other hand, we want to give the people of Schruns and Montafon back their St. Josef's Home with the design of the building," says Marko. The building, which is steeped in history, was for a long time a hospital and maternity centre where many Montafon residents were born.
The layout and design are based on the Montafon tradition: wooden bunks and catering facilities, combined with exposed stone and concrete walls that reflect the character and history of the building.
"With the renovation of the St. Josefsheim, we want to revitalise this special house for all locals as well as for our guests," concludes Peter Marko. Completion is planned for summer 2021.
New appearance
At the same time as St. Josefsheim, Mountain Residences/PURE Resorts Austria is building an aparthotel with 28 flats between St. Josefsheim and the car park of the Hochjoch cable car, which will be operated under the name "PURE Resort Schruns" after its planned completion in autumn 2021. The new aparthotel will focus on quality and high-quality materials in its architecture and interior design. Great emphasis is placed on contemporary, alpine architecture, which is reflected in the wooden façade and the deliberately chosen shape of the pitched roof. In addition, a wellness area with outdoor pool will provide the necessary relaxation for guests of the "PURE Resort Schruns". The flats are not for sale. This is a long-term investment by the Mountain Residences/PURE Resorts Group. The role of master builder was awarded to the Schruns-based company Jäger Bau in a joint venture with Nägele Bau.
