In the 2023/24 winter season, winter sports enthusiasts can once again expect numerous innovations and exciting events in Austria's sportiest ski area, promising them pure snow fun in Silvretta Montafon (SiMo) in Vorarlberg. From December 2023 to April 2024, everyone will experience a winter full of highlights here. New features include a RACE AREA in the Nova and the Snowpark Montafon. Things get particularly sporty in March when the FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup takes place on the Hochjoch. The Montafon also has plenty to offer in terms of music, with performances by DJ Ötzi and Sportfreunde Stiller.
The season starts in Silvretta Montafon on Friday, 1 December. On the following two days, the "Ski Opening Montafon" is officially celebrated with guests - including DJs and live music. If conditions permit, weekend skiing is even possible from mid-November. In addition to 140 kilometres of pistes, 35 lifts and a magnificent mountain panorama, SiMo also has some new features to offer this winter.
These include a new RACE AREA in the Nova, which consists of two Skiline installations and where winter sports enthusiasts can choose between parallel slalom, speed course, race cross and kids' race. A special feature is that guests are filmed and photographed while skiing. The content can then be analysed, admired and shared in the Silvretta Montafon app.
Over 40 kilometres and 10,000 metres in depth - one of the longest and sportiest ski circuits in the Alps: that's the Montafon Totale Ski, which makes every winter sports fan's heart beat faster. The new Montafon Snowpark also awaits. Even bigger and even more innovative. Winter sports fans can try their hand at kickers, rails or freeride and family cross here.
Apart from the sporting side, Silvretta Montafon has also invested in quality. For example, a new catering unit has opened at the Valisera cable car middle station. And there is also news for the staff: another staff house with over 40 micro-apartments with an innovative PV system is opening.
Towards the sun
The early bird not only catches the worm, but also has the fresh SiMo pistes (almost) to itself. For early risers, skiing starts very early three times a week on request. On Saturdays, the ski day starts at 7.30 a.m. with Ländle Früahsport (from February) and the sunrise runs. With the Zamang cable car, Seebliga cable car, Panorama cable car and the new Hochalpila cable car, Ländle Früahsport takes you up to the heights at lightning speed, where untracked runs await you in a wonderful morning atmosphere. Afterwards, a hearty breakfast in one of the mountain restaurants is the perfect way to recharge your batteries. Guests can experience pure nature and unrivalled mountain panoramas.
Freeride hotspot
Varied routes, spectacular lines that guarantee goosebumps and thrills, an extensive backcountry, plus absolute snow reliability until well into spring - this is off-piste like in a picture book. The sportiest ski area also makes freeriders' hearts beat faster with a hand-picked range of events. For the first time, the Open Faces Juniors (Saturday 27 January), the Bavarian Outdoor Film Festival (Friday 2 February) and the Freeride Testival
(weekend 17/18 February) will be stopping off in the Montafon. One of the classics is the Open Faces Contest (Saturday 24 February) in the terrain around the "Kleine Heimspitze", where the riders can be watched from the "Nova Stoba". Another highly anticipated fixed date is the Powderfest,
which takes place in 2024 from Friday, 02 February to Sunday, 04 February. With clinics, workshops, tests and tours, there will once again be a varied programme. Guides and pros from the scene will be happy to share their expertise and look forward to a shared freeride experience.
Good for the environment
Fun in the snow combined with sustainability - does that go together? The versatile Silvretta Montafon ski area in western Austria impressively demonstrates that this is possible. Around the underground car park are
600 parking spaces, including 35 e-charging stations in the exclusive MOON Lounge and a further 15 charging stations. The underground car park is designed in such a way that all parking spaces can be retrofitted with e-charging stations if required - using emission-free electricity from the region. Another advantage: the car park is just a stone's throw away from the lift station and leads directly to the fun in the snow via a short escalator route. What's more, the ski area is also part of the
GREEN MOUNTAINS initiative, the ski resort is investing in the maximum expansion of PV systems and environmentally friendly offers such as the Green Ticket.
Event highlights in the sportiest ski area
From December 2023 to April 2024, guests in the Silvretta Montafon ski area can look forward to sporting and musical event highlights. From Friday, 15 March to Sunday, 17 March, the FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup will take place on the Hochjoch in the Grasjoch area. Visitors can especially look forward to a performance by DJ Ötzi on Saturday, 16 March 2024, in the Nova Stoba. One week later, on Saturday,
23 March, Die Seer will give their farewell concert in the SiMo - at the mountain station of the Valisera cable car.
For the season finale on Saturday, 6 April, Sportfreunde Stiller do the honours and also perform at the Valisera cable car mountain station. The showdown at the end of the ski season will take place at the same location the following day: firstly, there will be a concert by Krauthobel, a regional band from the Montafon - and secondly, there will be a mega raffle. In addition to the main prize, a BMW 1 Series, there are also prizes including high-quality skis, season tickets and hotel stays. A valuable tip: the more often you ski in the SiMo, the better your chances of winning. So go ahead, download the SiMo app, take part in the big prize draw - and with a bit of luck take home one of the prizes.
